Does the city we live in, or even a different town within the same country, change the rhythm of our destiny? Astrocartography seeks to answer precisely this question. By projecting the sky at the moment of your birth onto a world map, it traces the lines where the Sun, Moon and planetsrise (ASC), set (DSC), culminate at the Midheaven (MC) and where they are located at the Imum Coeli (IC). These lines whisper of the countries where you can gain career momentum, the cities where love can blossom more easily, and the shores where you may find inner peace once you settle.
In this article, I simplify the logic of our new Astrocartography Calculator tool and show you, step by step, how to cast your map, what the lines signify, and how you can take the first step “for free.” If you are ready, let us begin.

Quick Start: If you want to see your chart right away, fill out the form and then navigate by clicking on the lines over the chart on the results page.

Astrocartography#

Astrocartography is a geographical guide that shows the projections of the planets in the birth chart onto the Earth. Technically, at the moment of birth, it extends the positions of the planets at theirAngular Points(MC/IC) and on theHorizon Circles(ASC/DSC) across all longitudes and latitudes. In this way, your chart produces a visual answer to the question,“In which place does my nature resonate more strongly with which theme?”.

There are four main angles in astrocartography:

  • ASC (Ascendant): The axis where your identity, appearance, and initiating energy are brought to life.
  • DSC (Descendant): The realm of relationships, partnerships, and mutual interactions.
  • MC (Midheaven): Career, visibility, social role, and reputation.
  • IC (Imum Coeli): Home, roots, privacy, inner sense of security.

Each time a planet passes through one of these four angles, it leaves a unique “theme seal” on that location. For example, Sun–MC line brings momentum for visibility and leadership; Venus–ASC line enhances aesthetic and social magnetism; Saturn–IC line, on the other hand, brings lessons of responsibility and structuring. When these lines come close to one another, their themes are amplified with a multiplier effect.

Astrocartography Calculation#

The astrocartography calculation can be summarized in three steps:

  1. Birth Data: The date, time, and place of birth (latitude–longitude) must be precise. An uncertainty of 10–15 minutes in the birth time can shift the position of certain lines by hundreds of kilometers.
  2. Celestial Positions: The Right Ascension (RA) and Declination (Dec) values of the Sun, Moon, and planets at the moment of birth, as well as the Sidereal Time (GMST/GAST) for Greenwich, are calculated.Right Ascension (RA) and Declination (Dec) values; as well as the Sidereal Time (GMST/GAST) for Greenwich are calculated.
  3. World Projection: For each planet, the MC/IC meridians and ASC/DSC horizon conditions are resolved and drawn as lines on the Earth.

In our technical infrastructure, while safeguarding client confidentiality, on-device (client-side) computation. In this way, your chart is generated without your data ever being sent to a third-party API. This structure is ideal in terms of both speed and privacy.

Astrocartography Map#

Astrocartography map, is a visual summary of the lines on Earth where planetary–angle combinations pass. On the map, you usually see the following labels, color‑coded or supported by symbols:

  • ☉/Sun (Sun), ☾/Moon (Moon), ☿ Mercury, ♀ Venus, ♂ Mars, ♃ Jupiter, ♄ Saturn, ♅ Uranus, ♆ Neptune, ♇ Pluto
  • ASC / DSC / MC / ICabbreviations of the angles

As you approach a city, the distance to the nearest planetary-angle line also matters. In practice, the0–150 km range is considered a “strong influence”; 150–300 km is “noticeable but more moderate”; beyond 300 km, the theme weakens. Naturally, it is important to remember that geographical features, culture, language, and personal preferences also shape the experience.

Begin reading the chart with small guiding clues:

  • “Which line is closest to the city I am currently living in?”
  • Which lines pass near the country I wish to move to?
  • “When I go on vacation, what do I wish to experience (rest, love, networking, a career move), and which astrocartography line aligns with this intention?”

The Meaning of Astrocartography Lines#

Astrocartography lines carry different themes depending on planet × aspect combinations. Here I share some key interpretations with the touch of Astrologer Arzu, along with practical examples. (The texts below also form the core of the “mini interpretation cards” that open on the map when choosing a city.)

Sun lines#

  • Sun–MC: Spotlight, professional visibility, leadership opportunities. Excellent for career momentum. However, expectations and responsibilities increase; you must be able to answer the question “Who am I?” with clarity.
  • Sun–ASCCourage to assert yourself, new beginnings, natural self-confidence. Physical energy and creativity rise. Note: The emphasis on “I” may become overly dominant in relationships.
  • Sun–DSC: Shining in partnerships and collaborations, encountering powerful individuals. The balance between “I” and “we” is essential.
  • Sun–ICBeing the focal point at home, visibility within the family. Inner warmth, sense of belonging. The home–work balance becomes more delicate.

Moon lines#

  • Moon–MCEmotional fluctuations in the public sphere; an ability to empathize with the masses. Increased visibility expressed in an emotional tone.
  • Moon–ASC: Sensitivity, intuition, the nurturing–being nurtured cycle. Requires careful attention to routines, sleep, and nutrition.
  • Moon–DSC: The importance of emotional bonds increases; the sense of “we” grows stronger. Themes of excessive attunement or dependency may be activated.
  • Ay–IC: The home theme is very strong; supportive for putting down roots, building a family, and expanding peace and serenity.

Mercury lines#

  • Mercury–MC: A communication-based career, with visibility in areas such as speaking, writing, and teaching.
  • Mercury–ASC: Learning new languages, networking, frequent movement; a restless, active mind.
  • Mercury–DSC: Mental harmony and shared ideas; the language of agreements gains importance.
  • Mercury–IC: House–office karma; working from home, writing room, small commercial setups.

Venus lines#

  • Venus–MC: Recognition in the fields of aesthetics, beauty, and art; harmonious client relations.
  • Venus–ASC: The field of attraction intensifies; new friendships and an atmosphere conducive to love.
  • Venus–DSC: Romance, harmony in partnership; balance the risk of sweet dependency.
  • Venus–IC: Beautifying the home, living in serenity, and rooting yourself through refined, elegant touches.

Mars lines#

  • Mars–MC: Competition, goal orientation, asserting one’s presence. Crisis management is learned.
  • Mars–ASC: Physical energy, athletics, vigor; at times impulsiveness and tension.
  • Mars–DSC: A spark in relationships; both passion and conflict may intensify.
  • Mars–IC: Activity in the home, moving–renovation, boundaries within the family.

  • Jupiter–MCIn career: expansion, doors of opportunity, mentors.
  • Jupiter–ASC: Positive environment, connections with foreigners, increase in education and travel.
  • Jupiter–DSC: Fortunate partnerships; ease in legal matters.
  • Jupiter–IC: A desire to establish a large and spacious home; an optimistic current within the family.

  • Uranus–DSC: Attracts unconventional people; flexibility is essential in relationships.
  • Uranus–IC: Frequent relocations, alternative lifestyles; a free, unrestricted space at home.

Neptune lines#

  • Neptune–MC: Inspiration, mystical–artistic nature; balance between confusion and idealism.
  • Neptune–ASC: Empathy, intuition, spiritual openings; remember to maintain your boundaries.
  • Neptune–DSC: Romantic enchantment; risk of idealization.
  • Neptune–IC: Dreams are intensified; seaside or coastal towns may become especially appealing.

Pluto lines#

  • Pluto–MCPower struggles, profound transformation; a “rebirth” in career.
  • Pluto–ASC: Profound transformation of identity; confronting themes of power and control.
  • Pluto–DSCMagnetic relationships, intense bonds; transformation is inevitable.
  • Pluto–IC: Purification in the roots; ancestral work and psychological exploration.

If you read this framework by also taking into account the planetary placements in your own birth chart, you will hear more clearly “in which language” your lines will speak. For example, if there is a Venus–Saturn contact in your birth chart, your Venus lines may carry not only the theme of romance, but also of relationships crowned with responsibility.

Astrocartography Chart Calculation#

The practical way to create an astrocartography map is to use a reliable calculation tool. Once we receive your birth details (date–time–place), we then:

  1. We calculate the celestial positions of the planets at the moment of birth as apparent (visible) RA/Dec.
  2. Together with Greenwich Sidereal Time, we calculate the MC/IC meridians and the ASC/DSC horizon points.
  3. We project these lines onto an interactive world map, distinguishing them with colors according to the planet and patterns according to the aspects.
  4. When you click on a city on the map, the nearest lines and their approximate distances (e.g., 120 km Venus–ASC) are displayed; brief interpretation cards also appear.

Let’s be transparent: While it is possible to offer the astrological work and software infrastructure required for astrocartography calculations at a basic overview level free of charge, detailed interpretations, relocation synthesis, and personalized reports are generally considered professional services.

Here is our approach:

  • Free Introduction: Free Astrocartography Chart Calculation tool to view your lines, click on cities, see the nearest paths, and read brief interpretations.

This model allows everyone to take the first step without risk, while offering those who wish to go deeper a value-focused path.

Astrocartography Chart Interpretation#

“I see the lines, but how do I interpret them?” Here is Astrologer Arzu’s 6-step interpretation method:

1) Set your intention.
Is it a relocation, a 6‑month work assignment, or a peaceful retreat? Jupiter–MC is more suitable for career expansion; Venus–ASC for social ease and themes of aesthetics and love; the Moon–IC is better aligned with peace and the energy of home.

2) Select the three closest lines.
Identify the 2–3 strongest lines that fall within 0–200 km of your target city. Rather than spreading yourself across too many lines, focus on the main theme.

3) Let the planet–aspect combination resonate within your own natal chart.
For example, if there is a hard Mars–Saturn aspect in your chart, on Mars lines the theme of struggle and resilience may become more pronounced. This is not an energy to be avoided; when consciously engaged with, it has much to teach.

4) Check the timing.
When transits and progressions are active, they can triggerthe themes of the lines you have chosen. Jupiter transits “illuminate” Jupiter lines; during Saturn transits, Saturn lines take on greater seriousness.

5) Micro-location effect.
Even within the same metropolitan area, a shift of 20–30 km can soften or intensify the influence of the lines. For example, being 80 km away from a Venus–ASC line can create a pleasant sense of social ease, while being directly on the line can manifest a much more visible “Venus state.”

6) Verify with a Relocation (Moving) Chart.
Working with the city you chose as a re-located chart based on your natal chart updates the house–sign axes and connects astrocartography themes to the psychological chart. In this way, your decision becomes more aligned with your personal dynamics.

(A few advanced pro tips)

  • Dual Line Proximities: Are Venus–ASC and Jupiter–DSC within the same city area? The theme of social expansion + fortunate partnerships may merge.
  • Loving Saturn: Saturn lines are not to be avoided just because they are considered “difficult.” Near the Midheaven–IC or Ascendant, they build discipline, mastery, and long-term security. What Saturn teaches is lasting.
  • Create Clarity with Neptune: Neptune lines expand the creative–spiritual realm and can be awe‑inspiring. However, written clarity, firm boundaries, and realism are essential in any contracts.
  • Energy Management on Mars: Mars lines bestow tremendous power in sports, competition, and initiative. However, “excessive speed” invites accidents; consciously regulated pace is ideal.
  • Courage in Pluto: Pluto is the herald of profound transformation. With therapeutic support, conscious awareness, and patience, it brings forth miraculous results.

Astrocartography Chart#

(Sample practical readings)

  • Example 1 – Career Leap: On the chart, theSun–MCline passes near Berlin; the person works in the creative sector. They attend a fair in Berlin, build a network, and receive a job offer there 6 months later. The same person had previously experienced a more socially withdrawn period in a city far from the Venus–ASC line.
  • Example 2 – Inner Peace and the Voice of Home: Moon–IC line near the Aegean coast. When the person relocates, their sleep pattern becomes more regulated, their relationships with family soften, and the rhythm of life calms down along the home–nature axis.
  • Example 3 – Journey of Transformation: Pluto–ASC line near Lima. In this region, visited for a short training, the person may experience a profound personal awareness crisis and a rebirth. It is challenging, yet when navigated consciously, it brings radical empowerment.

Using Astrocartography Calculation Effectively#

(How can you use our tool efficiently?)

  1. Clarify Your Birth Time: Family registry, hospital records, civil registry information… Refining the exact minute improves the precise alignment of the lines. If you are not sure, try different scenarios with a ±10-minute variation.
  2. Select IntentionSearch using tags such as “career momentum,” “love–relationship,” “academic–abroad,” “inner peace”; open the filters.
  3. Compare Cities: Mark your candidate cities on the map and compare the nearest lines. The 0–150 km band is felt more distinctly.
  4. Time Window: Note the departure and return dates; cross-reference them with the transit influences.
  5. Relocation Anchor: Open the relocated chart for your favorite city to see how the ASC–MC changes. Confirm whether the “Quick interpretation” cards are aligned with your intended destination.
  6. Personal Notes: Write down your experiences; astrocartography shines through accumulated insight. A line that feels “warm” today may reveal a completely different doorway you only notice a year from now.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Astrocartography?

It is a geographical astrology technique that maps the projections of planets and luminaries from your birth moment across the Earth. MC/IC and ASC/DSC lines show in which regions you can experience career, visibility, relationships, and inner world themes more powerfully.

What is Geographical Astrology?

It is a branch of astrology that interprets the birth chart on a map projection, supporting living location and travel plans. Astrocartography and relocation charts are tools of this field.

What does IC mean in astrology? (Astrocartography IC)

IC (Imum Coeli) relates to roots, family, inner security, and private life. In astrocartography, IC lines can strengthen themes of establishing a home and turning inward in a location.

What does AC (ASC) mean in astrology?

ASC (Ascendant) is the rising axis; it represents the outward reflection of identity, first impression, and initiating energy. In astrocartography, ASC lines increase personal visibility and interaction in the location you are in.

What do MC lines show?

MC (Midheaven) lines are associated with career, fame, goals, and public visibility. Lines like Sun-MC can support professional brilliance.

Is a birth chart the same as a star chart?

Although confused in everyday language, a birth chart contains the celestial positions of an individual moment. The term 'star chart' usually refers to the same thing, but astrocartography projects this data onto a world map.

What is an astrology chart?

It is a technical diagram showing the positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets according to birth date, time, and place. Astrocartography is the geographical projection of this diagram.

What is the meaning of the word cartography?

It means mapmaking. Astrocartography combines mapmaking with astrology, showing celestial data on an earth map.

Does a birth chart predict the future with certainty?

No. The chart shows tendencies and potentials; it is interpreted together with your choices, conditions, and timing. Astrocartography also points to probability and emphasis areas.

What are 11th house topics? (astrocartography context)

Friendships, networks, sharing of projects and goals. In 11th house-oriented lines, your tendency towards community and teamwork may increase in the location you are in.

What does the 12th house represent? (astrocartography context)

Withdrawal, deep psychology, inner world, solitary work, and background processes. Lines with 12th house emphasis can bring a more internal period.

What does the 8th house represent?

Transformation, joint resources, inheritance, crisis-renewal themes. Related lines can make these themes more prominent in your current location.

In which house is marriage seen in the birth chart?

Classically, the 7th house is connected with relationships and partnerships. In astrocartography, lines connected to the 7th house (e.g., Venus-DESC) can strengthen relationship themes.

Which houses are related to sexuality in the birth chart?

Usually the 5th house (romance) and 8th house (intimacy, union). Related lines can make these topics feel more vibrant in certain regions.

What are the critical degrees in astrology?

Anaretic 29°, sign entrances 0°, some midpoints, and certain degrees of fixed signs are considered important. In astrocartography calculation, as long as the degrees are taken correctly, the position of the lines will also be consistent.

Are horoscope (star chart) and birth chart the same thing?

In current technical astrology, the birth chart (natal) is fundamental. 'Star chart' is more colloquial; astrocartography uses technical, astronomy-based projections.

Does distance from astrocartography lines affect?

Yes. The effect is strongest on the line; it can still be felt in the 100-300 km band. The effect weakens as you move away.

What is the difference between relocation chart and astrocartography?

A relocation chart creates a new natal chart as if you were born in the selected city. Astrocartography shows planet/angle projections as lines on a world map; interpreting them together is ideal.

Can I use astrocartography if my birth time is not exact?

Ascendant and angle lines are sensitive to birth time. Even 10-15 minute deviations can shift the lines. Time verification (rectification) is recommended first.

What are parans? (optional advanced feature)

It is when two celestial bodies experience certain angular events simultaneously (e.g., one is at the zenith while the other is rising). It provides additional emphasis in advanced astrocartography analyses.

How is astrocartography interpreted?

Interpretation is made according to planet + angle combination: Sun-MC visibility/reputation; Venus-ASC social harmony/attraction; Mars-DSC competition; Saturn-IC responsibility and structure. Proximity to the line, natal placement of the planet, and current transits are considered; generalizations are not made alone.

How to look at astrocartography?

Birth date-time-place information is entered; apparent RA/Dec is calculated; MC/IC and ASC/DSC lines are generated with Greenwich sidereal time and displayed on a world map. The distance to the city you want to live/work in on your map should be evaluated in the 100-300 km band and read together with the relocation chart.

How to interpret astrocartography?

Interpretation is made according to planet + angle combination: Sun-MC visibility/reputation; Venus-ASC social harmony/attraction; Mars-DSC competition; Saturn-IC responsibility and structure. Proximity to the line, natal placement of the planet, and current transits are taken into account; no generalization is made alone.

How is an astrocartography map created?

Enter your birth data accurately and as close to the second as possible; the system generates the lines with ΔT and sidereal time. As a result, you see the MC/IC/ASC/DSC lines on the map, you can examine the proximity effect and relocation indicators by selecting a city.
