Astrocartography#

Astrocartography is a geographical guide that shows the projections of the planets in the birth chart onto the Earth. Technically, at the moment of birth, it extends the positions of the planets at theirAngular Points(MC/IC) and on theHorizon Circles(ASC/DSC) across all longitudes and latitudes. In this way, your chart produces a visual answer to the question,“In which place does my nature resonate more strongly with which theme?”.

There are four main angles in astrocartography:

• ASC (Ascendant): The axis where your identity, appearance, and initiating energy are brought to life.
• DSC (Descendant): The realm of relationships, partnerships, and mutual interactions.
• MC (Midheaven): Career, visibility, social role, and reputation.
• IC (Imum Coeli): Home, roots, privacy, inner sense of security.

Each time a planet passes through one of these four angles, it leaves a unique “theme seal” on that location. For example, Sun–MC line brings momentum for visibility and leadership; Venus–ASC line enhances aesthetic and social magnetism; Saturn–IC line, on the other hand, brings lessons of responsibility and structuring. When these lines come close to one another, their themes are amplified with a multiplier effect.

Astrocartography Calculation#

The astrocartography calculation can be summarized in three steps:

1. Birth Data: The date, time, and place of birth (latitude–longitude) must be precise. An uncertainty of 10–15 minutes in the birth time can shift the position of certain lines by hundreds of kilometers.
2. Astrocartography Map#

Astrocartography map, is a visual summary of the lines on Earth where planetary–angle combinations pass. On the map, you usually see the following labels, color‑coded or supported by symbols:

• ☉/Sun (Sun), ☾/Moon (Moon), ☿ Mercury, ♀ Venus, ♂ Mars, ♃ Jupiter, ♄ Saturn, ♅ Uranus, ♆ Neptune, ♇ Pluto

As you approach a city, the distance to the nearest planetary-angle line also matters. In practice, the0–150 km range is considered a “strong influence”; 150–300 km is “noticeable but more moderate”; beyond 300 km, the theme weakens. Naturally, it is important to remember that geographical features, culture, language, and personal preferences also shape the experience.

Begin reading the chart with small guiding clues:

• “Which line is closest to the city I am currently living in?”
• Which lines pass near the country I wish to move to?
• “When I go on vacation, what do I wish to experience (rest, love, networking, a career move), and which astrocartography line aligns with this intention?”

The Meaning of Astrocartography Lines#

Astrocartography lines carry different themes depending on planet × aspect combinations. Here I share some key interpretations with the touch of Astrologer Arzu, along with practical examples. (The texts below also form the core of the “mini interpretation cards” that open on the map when choosing a city.)

Sun lines#

• Sun–MC: Spotlight, professional visibility, leadership opportunities. Excellent for career momentum. However, expectations and responsibilities increase; you must be able to answer the question “Who am I?” with clarity.
• Sun–ASCCourage to assert yourself, new beginnings, natural self-confidence. Physical energy and creativity rise. Note: The emphasis on “I” may become overly dominant in relationships.
• Sun–DSC: Shining in partnerships and collaborations, encountering powerful individuals. The balance between “I” and “we” is essential.

Moon lines#

• Moon–DSC: The importance of emotional bonds increases; the sense of “we” grows stronger. Themes of excessive attunement or dependency may be activated.
• Ay–IC: The home theme is very strong; supportive for putting down roots, building a family, and expanding peace and serenity.

Mercury lines#

• Mercury–MC: A communication-based career, with visibility in areas such as speaking, writing, and teaching.
• Mercury–ASC: Learning new languages, networking, frequent movement; a restless, active mind.
• Mercury–DSC: Mental harmony and shared ideas; the language of agreements gains importance.
• Mercury–IC: House–office karma; working from home, writing room, small commercial setups.

Venus lines#

• Venus–MC: Recognition in the fields of aesthetics, beauty, and art; harmonious client relations.
• Venus–ASC: The field of attraction intensifies; new friendships and an atmosphere conducive to love.
• Venus–DSC: Romance, harmony in partnership; balance the risk of sweet dependency.
• Venus–IC: Beautifying the home, living in serenity, and rooting yourself through refined, elegant touches.

Mars lines#

• Mars–MC: Competition, goal orientation, asserting one’s presence. Crisis management is learned.
• Mars–ASC: Physical energy, athletics, vigor; at times impulsiveness and tension.
• Mars–DSC: A spark in relationships; both passion and conflict may intensify.
• Mars–IC: Activity in the home, moving–renovation, boundaries within the family.

Jupiter lines#

• Jupiter–MCIn career: expansion, doors of opportunity, mentors.
• Jupiter–ASC: Positive environment, connections with foreigners, increase in education and travel.
• Jupiter–DSC: Fortunate partnerships; ease in legal matters.
• Jupiter–IC: A desire to establish a large and spacious home; an optimistic current within the family.

Saturn lines#

• Saturn–MCIn career: structure, authority, tests of patience; long-term, enduring success.
• Saturn–ASC: Discipline, self-imposed limits; at times a sense of loneliness.
• Saturn–DSC: Serious partnerships, contracts; a lesson in responsibility within relationships.

Uranus lines#

Astrocartography Chart Calculation#

The practical way to create an astrocartography map is to use a reliable calculation tool. Once we receive your birth details (date–time–place), we then:

1. We calculate the celestial positions of the planets at the moment of birth as apparent (visible) RA/Dec.
2. Together with Greenwich Sidereal Time, we calculate the MC/IC meridians and the ASC/DSC horizon points.

Astrocartography Chart Interpretation#

“I see the lines, but how do I interpret them?” Here is Astrologer Arzu’s 6-step interpretation method:

1) Set your intention.
Is it a relocation, a 6‑month work assignment, or a peaceful retreat? Jupiter–MC is more suitable for career expansion; Venus–ASC for social ease and themes of aesthetics and love; the Moon–IC is better aligned with peace and the energy of home.

2) Select the three closest lines.
Identify the 2–3 strongest lines that fall within 0–200 km of your target city. Rather than spreading yourself across too many lines, focus on the main theme.

3) Let the planet–aspect combination resonate within your own natal chart.
For example, if there is a hard Mars–Saturn aspect in your chart, on Mars lines the theme of struggle and resilience may become more pronounced. This is not an energy to be avoided; when consciously engaged with, it has much to teach.

4) Check the timing.
When transits and progressions are active, they can triggerthe themes of the lines you have chosen. Jupiter transits “illuminate” Jupiter lines; during Saturn transits, Saturn lines take on greater seriousness.

5) Micro-location effect.
Even within the same metropolitan area, a shift of 20–30 km can soften or intensify the influence of the lines. For example, being 80 km away from a Venus–ASC line can create a pleasant sense of social ease, while being directly on the line can manifest a much more visible “Venus state.”

6) Verify with a Relocation (Moving) Chart.
Working with the city you chose as a re-located chart based on your natal chart updates the house–sign axes and connects astrocartography themes to the psychological chart. In this way, your decision becomes more aligned with your personal dynamics.

(A few advanced pro tips)

• Dual Line Proximities: Are Venus–ASC and Jupiter–DSC within the same city area? The theme of social expansion + fortunate partnerships may merge.
• Loving Saturn: Saturn lines are not to be avoided just because they are considered “difficult.” Near the Midheaven–IC or Ascendant, they build discipline, mastery, and long-term security. What Saturn teaches is lasting.
• Create Clarity with Neptune: Neptune lines expand the creative–spiritual realm and can be awe‑inspiring. However, written clarity, firm boundaries, and realism are essential in any contracts.
• Energy Management on Mars: Mars lines bestow tremendous power in sports, competition, and initiative. However, “excessive speed” invites accidents; consciously regulated pace is ideal.

• Example 2 – Inner Peace and the Voice of Home: Moon–IC line near the Aegean coast. When the person relocates, their sleep pattern becomes more regulated, their relationships with family soften, and the rhythm of life calms down along the home–nature axis.
• Example 3 – Journey of Transformation: Pluto–ASC line near Lima. In this region, visited for a short training, the person may experience a profound personal awareness crisis and a rebirth. It is challenging, yet when navigated consciously, it brings radical empowerment.
