In astrology, certain fixed stars are known as the “Royal Stars.” The four guardian stars of the ancient Persian tradition symbolize the four directions of the heavens and carry the promise of a powerful destiny + a serious trial:
- Regulus (the Heart of Leo) – Guardian of the North
- Fomalhaut (The Mouth of the Fish) – Watcher of the South
- Aldebaran (the Eye of Taurus) – Guardian of the East
- Antares (Heart of the Scorpion) – Guardian of the West
What Are the Royal Stars?#
The Royal Stars are known in astrology as the “four sacred fixed stars.” They are not merely points fixed at specific degrees of the zodiac, but cosmic powers that carry a very special energy through their mythological, spiritual, and symbolic meanings.
These stars:
- Aldebaran– It is located around the 9th degree of Taurus. It is regarded as the guardian of the East.
- Regulus– Located at the 29th degree of Leo. It is the guardian of the North.
- Antares– Fixed at the 10th degree of Sagittarius. It is the guardian of the West.
- Fomalhaut– It is at the 4th degree of Pisces. It is the guardian of the South.
In ancient times, these four stars were known as the guardians of the four corners of the sky. It was said that they granted strength to warriors, thrones to kings, and divine inspiration to sages.
Today, when we look at the points in the birth chart where these stars are located, we still see the very same themes:Power, inspiration, success, and at the same time growth that comes through trials.
To find out whether you, too, share a special connection with one of these stars, Birth Chart Calculator to check the planetary degrees in your chart.
Aldebaran: Guardian of the East#
Aldebaran, fixed at the 9th degree of Taurus, is the star of honor, courage, and integrity. If you have a planet in conjunction with this star, the theme of truth and righteousness becomes very powerful in your life.
If the Sun or Moon is in conjunction with Aldebaran, the person is generally someone who can stand tall despite great hardships. Even though life presents them with severe trials, as long as they do not stray from honesty, they ultimately achieve great success.
Yet Aldebaran has a shadow side: if you stray from integrity, that same power can bring you down. This star demands an “honorable struggle”; it has no tolerance for opportunism or lies.
In my experience, individuals under the influence of Aldebaran project a reliable and steadfast image in society. Their greatest strength is that they do not abandon their principles, even in difficult times.
Regulus: The Star of Power and Fame#
Regulus, shining at the 29th degree of Leo, is associated with leadership, status, and fame. Those whose charts show this star conjunct the ASC (Ascendant), MC (career point), or the Sun are destined to stand out in the public eye.
The gift of Regulus is immense: to be recognized in society, to hold power, to attain fame. Yet along with this gift comes a very great trial:Pride.
Individuals who carry the influence of Regulus achieve lasting success when they use their power to uplift others. But if arrogance or a desire for revenge prevails, their fall from the summit will be just as swift.
In my clients who have a Regulus conjunction, I usually see great potential on the stage, in politics, in the arts, or in the business world. But I always give them this warning: “Allow power to elevate you, but never let it blind you.”
Antares: Guardian of the West#
Antares, located at the 10th degree of Sagittarius, is the star of passion and transformation. If the Moon, Mars, or Pluto in your chart is very close to this point, there may be a recurring theme of growing through crises in your life.
Antares does not allow you to remain on the surface. This star demands depth, demands struggle, demands confrontation. Its energy sometimes transforms you through crises. Even if you experience great losses, endings, or shocking events, afterward you are reborn from your ashes, as if rising anew.
The gift of this star is like a rebirth after death. Its shadow, however, can manifest as excessive ambition, obsession, and destructiveness. Antares matures you by confronting you with your own shadow.
In astrological charts, individuals under the influence of Antares learn to stand tall in life despite crises. Their power lies in their ability to transform darkness into light.
Fomalhaut: Guardian of the South#
Anchored at the 4th degree of Pisces, Fomalhaut is the star of inspiration, creativity, and spiritual mission. When Neptune, Venus, or the Moon is in conjunction with this star, the native tends to pursue spiritual healing, artistic creativity, or lofty ideals.
The energy of Fomalhaut offers something far beyond worldly success: inspiration and vision. This star grants you the opportunity to experience life with a higher level of consciousness, yet at the same time it can also make you vulnerable to disappointment and illusion.
Individuals who carry this stellar influence often leave a mark in the realms of art, spirituality, philosophy, or the collective consciousness. Their voice becomes a source of hope and light not only for themselves, but also for others.
These fixed stars become prominent especially when the Sun, Moon, Ascendant (ASC), and MC are in a 1° orb of conjunction. (For the Aldebaran–Antares opposition axis, opposition can also be taken into account.) Below you will find both the “how to calculate” section and, for each star, degree ranges, meanings, tests, and plenty of examples.

Approximate Degrees for 2025 (Tropical Zodiac)#
Fixed stars move very slowly. The values below are for around 2025; there may be differences of 1–2 arcminutes. When casting your chart, still verify them with a current ephemeris/table.
- Regulus ≈ Virgo 0°20′ vicinity
(historically, it was in the last degrees of Leo and, after the 2010s, moved into the early 0° of Virgo) - Fomalhaut ≈ Pisces 4°10′
- Aldebaran ≈ Gemini 9°47′
- Antares ≈ Sagittarius 10°01′ (exactly opposite Aldebaran)
Suggested orb:
- ASC/MC for up to 2°,
- Sun/Moon for 1° (max 1°30′),
- For the other planets, 1° is ideal.
Note: Fixed stars are most prominent in conjunction. Classical sources rarely emphasize the square/trine; modern interpretations sometimes broaden this, but for the sake of methodological consistency, focus on the conjunction.
Quick Calculation Guide (4 Steps)#
Step 1 – Generate your chart: Use your date, time, and place of birth with the Birth Chart Calculator tool. List the sign + degree values of the planets and angle points.sign + degree values.
Step 2 – Select the target points:
- Sun, Moon, ASC, MC(the strongest influences)
- Second ring: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn
- If you wish: N.Node/MC, Pars Fortunae, Vertex (if advanced)
Step 3 – Match with a 1° orb:
- Is there a±1° orb conjunction for each degree of the star?conjunction?
- Aldebaran–Antares also opposition check as well (±1°).
Step 4 – Connect the interpretation:
- Which planet/aspect is making contact?
- House position and the houses it rules(dispositor/chain)which area is it amplifying?
- A “success formula” is derived from the promise of the star and its trials.
